Made by you: Zero-waste coffee body scrub

Guest post, by Sydne de Wet

We are big fans of all-natural, organic skincare, and our homemade coffee scrub recipe not only keeps your skin silky-smooth but utilises your used coffee grounds, a zero-waste win! It also makes for the perfect budget and eco-friendly Christmas gift for you and your loved ones.

Why use a body scrub?

Our body sheds dead skin cells regularly, and if not removed can lead to a host of skin issues like dullness, roughness, and patchy skin. We need to regularly unclog our pores to keep our skin fresh and exfoliation helps us in the process.

But why coffee grounds?

The sand-like texture of coffee grounds makes for a great exfoliant, they work to gently remove the dead skins cells, which help rejuvenate and boost circulation. Say hello to youthful, glowing, and silky-smooth skin!

Zero-Waste Coffee Body Scrub Recipe

Ingredients

1/2 cup used ground coffee

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup melted coconut oil

Make it festive by adding in:

1 tbsp cinnamon

1 tbsp powdered ginger

1 tsp allspice

1 tsp nutmeg

Method:

Melt the coconut oil and allow it to cool but not solidify.

Add all the remaining ingredients to the coconut oil and mix.

Pour the scrub into an airtight container or mason jar.

Store in the fridge and use within two weeks.

How do I use my scrub?

Step 1: Scoop a spoonful of your scrub and apply it onto wet skin.

Step 2: Gently rub the scrub over your body in circular motions to exfoliate and polish the skin, always avoiding the area around the eyes. Focus on areas that want extra attention by scrubbing them for longer such as scars, stretch marks, breakouts, or cellulite.

Step 3: Rinse with warm water, pat dry, and follow up with a nourishing moisturizer or body butter.

Fressko Tip: Use your scrub three times a week for best results.
